Beautiful, Sad Christmas Songs by Christian Artists
For a season that’s known to be about merrymaking and revelry, it’s quite off to be sad and melancholic. But with all the superficial merriment and commercialism that’s obscured the real meaning and joy of Christmas, many are caught up with Christmas blues. Many are searching for answers when the real Answer to life’s questions came here 2 millenia ago, many are yearning for peace when the Prince of Peace came near since that one silent night in Bethlehem, many are crying for deliverance when salvation has been procured by the Son of God in a dramatic spectacle of God’s love and wrath on a cruel Roman cross – all because we’re looking for it in the wrong places.
Here’s some songs that I’ve compiled, that may not be happy at all but they convey the other side of a jolly Christmas – the solitude of the soul and the heart seeking for genuine love.
Different Kind of Christmas by Mark Schultz
Mark Schultz never fails for what a superb master storyteller he is. He, together with his wife, wrote this song in memory his late father-in-law who made such a profound impact in their family’s lives. A great song for those who had to go through the Christmas season after losing someone close to your heart.
One Last Christmas by Matthew West
This songs tells about the story of a terminally-ill toddler who miraculously lived for one last Christmas. This is arguably one of the best compositions by Matthew West. Song is also featured in 10 Christian Songs That Can Make You Cry
Christmas Shoes by Newsong
“The Christmas Shoes” tells the story of a poor boy who wants to buy a pair of shoes for his dying mother. The “singer” in the song helps the boy out those shoes and said, “I knew God had sent that little boy to remind me what Christmas is all about.”
Crying for a Christmas by Scott Krippayne
A melancholic song about a soul’s longing for God. So many of us could be enjoying the happiness this season but are we are really happy? Listen to this beautiful musical piece by Scott Krippayne.
Christmas Makes Me Cry
You can’t help it but sometimes Christmas just makes you cry. You might have lost a loved one, bad things happened in your life, you see suffering everywhere. Stuff happens. They do. But the truth is that despite all of these things, there is hope for everyone of us because the Savior who was born, who died but rose again vanquishing death and sin once and for all. We look forward to that day when “There is peace on earth for every heart to find.”
